We all live in Cyberspace, as almost everything we do is connected in one way or the other to computer technology. Our mails are accessed through the use of the computer. Most times I imagine the cyberspace being taken away from me. That will just pull me into a vacuum of nothing, which I’m sure would be the case with you as well as everyone else. Many years ago, cyberspace was very young and just starting to grow. Understanding it was hard and its meaning was confined to a network of computers connecting some organisations virtually. However, all that has changed as everything that connects us with other ones are connected by computers and the internet. Different businesses and private citizens are surrounded with the computer and will be terribly affected if the internet and the computer happened to stop working now.
Every habitat of the cyberspace is faced with a cyber security issue different from others. The issues are of so great a variety that one of them hardly gets publicised enough to be known by everyone. This makes it harder for cyber threats to be tackled and they keep popping up everyday and everywhere. It is therefore important to be knowledgeable and involved in the cyberspace. There is this worrisome bother I harbor about the fight on cybersecurity. The fight against cyber crimes might have security tighten so much that our privacy will be compromised A cyber war too will not be like a normal war where soldiers go against each other, it will actually go more miles than that. Countries will hack through the systems of lesser cyber potent countries to tools that establish their network and have them disabled. The losing countries will be without connections and be thrown back into the primitive age at least for sometime.
We need to understand that technological advancements are faster than the evolution of humans, the society and their ability to keep up with these advancements. Every day there is a new development in technology and old ones which had probably just been developed are left behind. Windows 7 has now become obsolete, but it was once hailed as the next best thing after sliced bread. Roadrunner computer was the fastest computer once, but after a few years of technological advancements, it has fallen out of the league of fast computers as technology moved on without giving the society a moment’s respite. Sometimes, these advancements just take days instead of weeks and months. For whatever new development is made is technology, there is always a new one waiting there to take over.
The fate or future of the cyberspace is unpredictable. Unbelievable theories today could become laws for newer awesome development tomorrow. So also are the threats that come with it. Perhaps if such threats had been made known to us before the invention, the human race would have passed over it or at least restrict the exposure to it. Therefore, it is important that users of cyberspace should be vigilant and knowledgeable enough to understand the complexities of the cyberspace.
These days, computers are fast taking over our world. As we move about our day to day activities, you constantly see us swiping out our phones to check our mails and other messages. Some people have laptops in their bags for easily performing one task or the other faster. The importance of computer is overwhelming. Here are some of them. Computers make for easier and faster execution of work. It saves us exertion and time and even cost.
You could have a message you want to deliver. Instead of going all the way to the receiver’s house, spending time, energy and money, you simply send an email. There is no faster way that has been discovered in performing tasks apart from the use of computers. This ensures the work is done fast and delivery is made on time. Computers are programmed to be efficient. They don’t get angry or sad and make mistakes because of emotions.
They do what they are programmed to do exactly that way without letting emotions get in the way, and this accounts for effortless efficiency in the work. Companies and associations have discovered that client records kept through the computer is not with mistakes and can be easily referred to. The computers also help in preparation of budgets.
Furthermore, as the push towards a cashless society rises to the fore, banks are providing platforms online through which services can be provided for their clients. Money transaction is done while one is lying full stretch on the bed. Even companies are taking to the idea of an e-market. Goods are bought and sold online and they are also advertised therein. We have such markets, like Amazon. Social networking has also become extremely important in order to relax or get connections.
Social media platforms like Facebook, Skype, Whatsapp, LinkedIn and others are fast becoming important in employment and business deals, and these are all utilised through the computer. Also, online courses are multiplying and people actually enroll in them, garnering as much knowledge as they can. For writers, the computer is like a second skin. Not only do they now type and save numerous stories and works on their PCs, but they also do a lot of research using the computer.
However, we are like children licking sugar happily without thinking of diabetes. Have computers been important in our lives? Yes they, but they have also done us in. Let us see how. Many jobs which humans hitherto performed have been taken over by computers and in this way people are put out of jobs and rendered unemployed. A jobless man is a hungry man, a hungry man is a desperate man, and a desperate man is a potential criminal. Also, too many people waste productive time using the computers doing nothing useful. Maybe playing games or chatting online.
Computers, apart from these, have no full proof security for what you put in them. People’s private information are leaked in this way and known by all and sundry which is a violation of priceless privacy. In addition, cyber crimes are committed freely on the internet, and many people who do this are hardly caught. Con men sit in their rooms and choose their targets. People hack computers and obtain an information they should not have. Even though the drawbacks might pale in comparison to the benefits, there is no denying the fact that these are no little drawbacks and they have the potential for destroying the benefits of the computer.
